MTEZA CREEK, KENYA
MANGROVE REFORESTATION

NOVEMBER 2023

Coastal Kenya stands as one of the country's less developed areas, relying on mangrove ecosystems for employment, and nutrition. Over the past decades, the southern coastal regions have experienced urbanization, leading to the conversion of mangrove forests into land uses. Combined with ineffective governance, the result has been excessive depletion of mangroves, vital ecosystems that not only impact the livelihoods of communities but also crucial habitats for organisms.
