In the Nordic region of Europe, Ekovilla is part of a group of projects aimed at removing carbon from the environment. They receive waste materials from companies that produce wooden building elements. Instead of letting these wastes go to landfills, Ekovilla recycles them to create carbon-negative cellulose fiber insulation (CFI) for homes and businesses.
Thanks to Ekovilla's recycling efforts, the waste from wooden building elements is put to good use, and it reduces the need for harmful materials like polystyrene and mineral wool for insulation.
Ekovilla follows a special method called Puro.earth's Wooden Building Elements methodology. This helps their CFI insulation remove carbon from the atmosphere for an impressive 50 years, extending the positive impact of sustainable wooden building elements. Additionally, using CFI also prevents the emission of 7 tonnes of CO2 for every tonne of CFI used. This means Ekovilla's projects not only reduce carbon emissions but also provide extra benefits.
To ensure the effectiveness of their projects, Ekovilla's efforts are reviewed by Carbon Plan, a non-profit research organization. They analyze carbon removal programs to make sure they are making a real difference. An independent verification is conducted for lifecycle analysis and environmental product declarations to assess the overall environmental impact.
